Welcome To IndieBite.com

Last summer, Gold and I went on a little road trip through this great nation of ours, visiting family and friends, running errands, and generally enjoying the rare pleasure of each other’s physical–as opposed to electronic or telephonic–company. It was an extravagant trip of sorts to drop a vehicle off in advance of a cross-nation move. We rode a ferry. We went to an Orioles game. We saw fireworks. We built a deer fence.

But more than anything, what guided the spirit and route of the journey was food. Inspired in large part by Jane and Michael Stern’s excellent book Road Food, Gold plotted out delicious detours from interstates and highways to hunt and gather memorable and delicious sustenance. Meanwhile, we packed a cooler full of assembly food to save a little bit on expenses so we could really let loose on the designated targets. And as we documented our experiences, the gears started turning…

We’ve had many friends in touring bands over the years and it’s always been a desire of mine to compile their recommendations of food to be found in uncharted territory. IndieBite.com is our attempt at developing that source. We’ll be assembling lists, reviews, photos, and maps of convenient but unique food stops across the US to save musicians, artists, authors, and others from the distress of not knowing where your next meal is coming from.

To begin, we’ll catch you up on the stops we made on our trip; after that, we’ll throw in some of our personal favorites from across the country; and gradually, we’ll start to incorporate new adventures and suggestions from friends and acquaintances.

If you have any suggestions, email us at bites@indiebite.com.

For now, stay tuned. You’ll be eating soon.
